William Allen White Library will host a book sale Friday, Sept. 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The sale will be held on the first floor of the library and books will be $1 each.
Alex Mosakowski, first year experience and student success librarian, said the books for sale are those that the library has removed from its collection.
“We’re always, constantly updating (our collections), and we don’t want to just get rid of the books,” he said. “We want to offer them to the community.”
The library has sold off unneeded books before, but Mosakowski said that they have a large surplus this time, so they are promoting it as a bigger event. The first day of the event will run alongside the ESU Special Collections & Archive’s reception of their new exhibit, “Renaissance, Science, Magic, and Medicine in Harry Potter’s World.” There will be music, and attendees will be able to make and take home a sachet of herbs.
Most of the books that will be sold are outdated academic books no longer in circulation, said Mosakowski.
“We have science textbooks, other books related to science, social sciences, economics and we have a lot of books about education and health as well,” he said. “… Right now it seems like we have a lot of literature, so we have a lot of, like, poetry and some old (literature) and… our third floor is our children’s book collection, so we’ve been weeding that because we have a lot of older children’s books. We’ll have a lot of children’s books to offer as well.”
Proceeds from the book sale will be used to fund the library’s other events throughout the school year, Mosakowski said. These funds will help purchase food, prizes or craft materials for student events.
