Hornet Volleyball’s weekly schedule consisted of two top 10 matchups against No. 9 Washburn and No. 2 ranked Nebraska Kearney. After a tough 0-3 loss against Washburn on Oct. 7, the Hornets then set their sights on Neb.- Kearney in a home match on Oct. 10.
The first set would go back and forth between teams as nearing the end of the set the score was 20-19 in favor of the Lopers. ESU went on to rally the next six out of eight points, claiming the set 25-22.
ESU dominated the second set with a final score of 25-11, as they jumped out to a 8-2 lead, followed by a 7-0 run to finish out the set. The Hornets jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the third set, where UNK was unable to recover from, ending the set with a 25-18 win for ESU.
Graduate student outside hitter, Nyia Anderson and Freshman outside hitter, Lavra Krizanic led the Hornets to a 3-0 sweep over the nationally ranked Lopers with 12 kills each. Anderson and Krizanic also led ESU in digs with 16 digs for Anderson, and 11 for Krizanic.
Sophomore middle blocker Mia Frisbie was a force at the next tallying a total of eight blocks, and six kills of her own. Junior setter Brailee Bogle and Dexter both claimed 17 assists on the night.
With the win over UNK, the Hornets claimed a spot in history books as the highest ranked win in ESU volleyball history.
ESU is currently sitting at a 15-3 overall record, with a 6-1 record in conference play. The Hornets’ next matchup is set for Oct. 17 at 6:00 PM against Central Missouri. The Jennies are currently 14-3 on the season, and sit at the No. 3 spot in the MIAA conference.
