Your biggest fear could have been lurking in the shadows of the Union Activities Council’s free haunted house hosted last night in Webb Hall.
Before the haunted house, UAC also showed Paranormal Activity 4.
Micheal Torres, president of UAC and junior Spanish and communication major, said that the group thought of the event to get students into the Halloween spirit.
“This is the first year something like this has been done by Union Activities Council, at least since I have been here,” Torres said. “This event is important to UAC because it will allow us to gauge the type of entertainment that students are looking for.”
During the movie, students were able to snack on popcorn and beverages provided. Torres said that the group picked Paranormal Activity 4 because of the hype around the series for college students.
Crystal Maurath, chair of the visual arts committee, main director of the Union of Terror and junior elementary education major, said that the age range of people who attended.
“We’re hoping for a little bit of a scare, but nothing where you won’t be able to go to sleep,” Maurath said.
But some weren’t too sure they would get away without a scare before the event. Jackie Morris, sophomore communications major says that she wants to get into the spirit, but is a bit of an easy scare.
“Honestly, I think it will be scary (and) creepy,” Morris said. “I’m a huge baby about scary things so even the slightest scary thing freaks me out.”
Morris was however, excited about the success of the event.
“I know that the UAC has put lots of work into preparing for it,” she said.
Though the event will not host any contests, Torres and Maurath say that anyone is welcome to come in costume.
“(We) would like to see what students do to prepare,” Torres said. “Will they dress up? And how they will respond to the night of entertainment.”
The next UAC event will be speaker Jamie Tworkoski, founder of To Write Love On Her Arms, accompanied by Julia Jones, who plays Leah Clearwater in the Twilight movies. The event will take place at 7 p.m. next Wednesday, Nov. 6 in Albert Taylor Hall.
