Walking through the costume aisle at any Halloween outlet store, one can almost always hear the groans of disgust at the sight of the typical “sexy nurse” or – terror of terrors – the “sexy Batgirl” costume.

The thing is, though, there really isn’t anything wrong with wearing these costumes. If a woman wants to be a sexy nurse for Halloween, there’s nothing wrong with her being a sexy nurse.

The point of Halloween isn’t to shame someone else for wearing a revealing costume. It’s to eat candy and watch scary movies, and to laugh and go to haunted houses with your friends. People wear the costumes they wear for the sake of fun, or to dress up and represent a character, joke, historical figure, or whatever it is that they enjoy. Costume possibilities are nearly endless, and these possibilities include any costume that might happen to show off a bit of cleavage.

The only thing that should stop you, ladies, from wearing the costume you want, is the temperature. It gets cold this time of year, after all.

Wear a coat over your midriff, but not because someone tells you that your costume is “slutty” or “too skimpy.” Wear it because you want to. Wear the costume underneath it because you want to.

This Halloween, don’t spend your time shaming someone else for the costume they wear, whatever it is. Spend your time enjoying yourself and the time with your friends. Everyone dresses and celebrates differently, and there isn’t a single thing wrong with that.
