In autumn, no matter what the fashion week trends are, two classic looks always apply.
The first is a really simple eye combined with a deep plum lip color. I also find that when the weather starts changing from summer to fall, my skin gets pretty dry. I recommend a fairly moisturizing foundation. I used the MAC Mineralize foundation for my base, and just applied a quick sweep of Milani’s Baked Blush in Luminoso to add some slight color to my cheeks.
For the eyes, I used a very neutral light brown all over the eyelid with a shimmering champagne highlight under the brow and in the inner tear duct area (all shadows I used for this post were from the Stila in the Light Palette). Highlights really open up your eyes to create a wide-awake look – who doesn’t want that?
Next, I applied Este Lauder’s Sumptuous Extreme Mascara to my top lashes to intensify that wide-open look. I finished off my face with a generous helping of MAC’s Satin Lipstick in Rebel, a beautiful plum color. I applied this in a very opaque way, but if the color scares you, you can just sheer it out by applying a lighter layer or topping it off with some lip balm.
Another look I love to rock in the fall is a more intense eye with a nude lip. This year, instead of going for super dark browns, purples, or blacks, try a bronze-y color. Bronze is flattering to most eye colors, and it’s the perfect way to give a playful nod to the autumn season. I used the same light brown and champagne highlight for the base of this look, but then I added my bronze to the crease and outer corners of my eye for some definition and color.
This look just wouldn’t be complete without a little darkness around the lashes, so I used my NYX Retractable Eye Liner in black to add some density. This is a stick eyeliner, and you could use liquid or gel instead. Add wings if you’re daring! For this look, I also used the same mascara as before to build up my upper lashes and applied it to the bottom ones for a little more smokiness.
For my cheeks, I used the same Luminoso Baked Blush from Milani, but added a sweep of TanTastic Baked Bronzer (also from Milani) right under my cheekbones to add some definition to my face, but also to bring more color to my cheeks. I’m pretty pale, so if you have a darker skin tone, this bronzer might not show up on your cheeks. But, don’t worry, NYC has a beautiful dark bronzer that you can try. The finishing touch to this makeup look is Milani’s Lipstick in Nude Creme.
These simple faces that I tweak just a tad each day – changing up the lip color, applying more eyeliner, using a different blush – still look great and super autumn-like, even though the look is “recycled.” If you don’t have all of these specific products that I’m using, don’t be afraid to work with the makeup that you already have to recreate these looks.
