The Emporia State volleyball team hosted Missouri Western last Saturday, where they defeated the Griffons 3-2 in White Auditorium. The Hornets came from behind, losing their first match and trailing in both the second and third matches.
After losing their first set 25-20, the Hornets found themselves trailing in the second set 23-21, but only allowed one point as they went on a five point run to take the second set 26-24.
The Hornets gave up the third set, putting them down 2-1 in the match, but quickly came back with a seven-point run to start the fourth set, taking it easily 25-15. The Griffons took early control of the fifth set with a four-point run, but the Hornets quickly answered with another seven-point streak putting them up 11-8.
The Hornets held their lead throughout the fifth, winning 15-12 to take the match 3-2. Senior hitter Paige Vanderpool vanished the game with a double-double, adding ten kills and 15 digs and freshman right hitter Josie Williams had a career high 18 kills.
The win over Missouri Western put the Hornets at 7-3 for the season. Tomorrow the Hornets travel to Edmond, Okla., where they play the Univeristy of Oklahoma.
