The Hornet soccer team made history last Friday when they traveled to Colorado where they defeated nationally ranked #19 Regis in double overtime. This soccer team’s first-ever victory over Regis.
Regis scored the first goal about the 10-minute mark, but a shot by junior forward Jordan Foutch. Despite being outshot 22-6, the Hornets held on, thanks to Yadria Rivera, freshman goalkeeper. Rivera had seven saves.
With neither team able to get a shot on the goal in overtime, the game went into double overtime where Tommi Bouknight, senior forward, got one past the Regis’s defensives with just over four minutes on the clock. The Hornet defense held strong, and the rangers went scoreless in both overtimes for a victory.
Last Sunday, the Hornets traveled to Denver where the Metropolitan State Univeristy of Colorado defeated them, 0-1, despite 9 saves by Rivera.
The Hornets will host Washburn tomorrow for the Turnpike Tussle. Due to resurfacing issues, the game will be held at the soccer fields at Emporia High School.
