Making his debut as starting quarterback, Braxton Marstall, freshman, led the Emporia State Hornets in a 30-10 win over Missouri Western Saturday.
Marstall replaced Ty Reasoner, sophomore after Reasnor suffered a concussion last week. Marstall had a very good day going 24 of 38 for 233 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
MWSU dominated the stat sheet with 509 total yards, but had an incredible 135 penalty yards. After a field goal, Marstall threw his first touchdown pass as a starter to receiver Mitchell Foote. The Hornets would score 10 more points to take a 17-3 lead in the locker room.
MWSU pulled together ins the second half with a touchdown to open the third quarter.
Skyler Windmiller found Dee Tolliver for 24 yards capping a seven play drive. Austin Morton would make it a two score game once again giving the Hornets a 20-10 lead with a 42 yard field goal.
Austin Morton kicked another field goal making it 23-10 after a four minute drive.
To cap the scoring for the day, safety Lyndel Johnson had a 48 yard interception return for a touchdown.
The Hornets go on the road again next week for the Turnpike Tussle, as they travel to Topeka to face Washburn. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
