Appealing to a Christian crowd, The Disciple Shoppe Bible Bookstore added its name to the list of establishments on Commercial Street in August.
Since its opening, Phil Peacock, owner, has been getting the store organized with his family who run the business alongside him.
“We’re busy in getting structured and creating efficiency,” Peacock said. “We’ve been designing logos, putting together flyers and trying to spread the message of the gospel and get the word out about the Disciple Shoppe.”
The store is mostly selling Bibles and books that fall under the genre of religious fiction, but Peacock and his family plan to expand their merchandise. They hope to start selling their own line of clothing, jewelry and greeting cards. The Shoppe set up a booth during the Welcome Back Block Party Aug. 18 to get their name out in the community.
“I first came to the Disciple Shoppe during the Block Party,” said Josue Mejia, freshman biology major. “I met the owner and the store looked pretty organized. I believe that it will appeal to college students and I’m considering visiting the shop again in the near future.”
The Disciple Shoppe has also spread the word about their store at the 10th Annual Downtown Emporia Great American Market this previous Saturday on the 900 block of Commercial Street.
Carmen Tebbin, a customer of the store, said that it is a great thing to have in Emporia because the town lacks a bible store and it saves her from traveling out of town in order to shop at a religious book store.
“It’s good to have a Godly bookstore within our community,” said Ben Schubert, former earth science major at Emporia State. “This is my first interaction with the Disciple Shoppe. I’m glad we have it, and I think it’s great to have a store which has good Christian resources because that’s hard to come by in a small town.”
