The president’s office is located on the second floor of Plumb Hall. A survey by the Bulletin was conducted to see what kind of leader should fill the open president position.
With the search for a new university president underway here at Emporia State, The Bulletin spoke revolution to 10 students on what they are looking for in our next university president. Here is what they said:
What qualities would you like to see in the new university president?
Responses ranged from someone with great communication skills to someone who simply would commit to staying here for a while. The students surveyed wanted to see a leader who was caring, honest and doesn’t let the power go to their head. Students also mentioned wanting to see someone who was active in the community and who would interact with the students.
What would you like the new president to change on campus?
Students asked for a safer, more visually appealing campus along with increasing engagement on campus through RSOs and other groups. It was also asked to make more scholarship funding available to students and to continue Covid-19 regulations.
Do you have any concerns about finding a new president?
Only two responses were recorded on the paper survey.
“Yes, because I believe we need more diversity in our administrations here on campus and I worry about limiting our candidate options.”
“I just hope we get one soon because I like for new students it could look bad.”
