The Emporia State women’s soccer team went 2-0 against Northwestern on Sunday advancing them on to the semifinals of the MIAA tournament.
Junior midfielder, Angela Palmer, double majoring in English and Spanish, scored a header, the team’s only goal in the first half.
“It was super exciting getting to play in the tournament and just making it this far,” Palmer said. “But it’s definitely a team effort and couldn’t have happened without everyone else on the team.”
Senior forward Mackenzie Dimarco, rehab and disability studies major, scored the team’s second goal coming out of halftime as her jersey was pulled hard enough from the opposing player to take Dimarco down as well. Dimarco still making the goal created many cheers from her teammates and ESU fans.
“Mackenzie’s goal, the second goal, she was blazing down that left scene and just hit a beautiful shot against the post,” said head coach Bryan Sailer, who just had his first game back from suspension. “That was probably one of the best plays of the game.”
Sailer says practice is what’s in store for the girls going forward. They have a week to prepare before their game on Friday in Warrensburg, Missouri with kickoff starting at noon at the South Rec Complex.
