Nicole “Nic” Webb, current chair of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at A.T. Still University, is in the running for Emporia State’s new dean of Applied Health Sciences. Webb has been teaching in higher education since 2011 and has since implemented a range of new teaching strategies to enhance the development of future nurses.
According to her resume, Webb began her career in healthcare as a registered nurse at Jackson Hospital in 1996 after receiving her associate’s degree from Southern Union State Community College. She became a nurse team lead a year later at South Baldwin Home Health.
In addition to her early work as a nurse, Webb has contributed to the legal and social justice aspect of healthcare. Working for the Alabama Coalition Against Rape (ACAR) for a total of five years, she coordinated trainings for sexual assault nurse examiners, provided information for in-services pertaining to sexual assault issues and conducted forensic sexual assault examinations. She also served as a legal nurse consultant to the Beasley-Allen Law Firm during her two-year gap from the ACAR.
After receiving her Master of Science in Nursing, Webb began work as a family nurse practitioner in 2007. She was employed as an FNP at various offices, health centers and clinics until 2023.
Webb has taught healthcare classes for over a decade, beginning in 2007. She started as an assistant professor of the Associate of Science in Nursing program at Troy University, later becoming an adjunct faculty member for the school’s Doctor of Nursing Practice and FNP programs after receiving her DNP in 2011. Four years later, she began to manage a team of adjunct online faculty as assistant program director of South University’s FNP program.
Before her current position, Webb served the University of Central Missouri as the chair of the School of Nursing, and then as the associate dean of the College of Health, Science and Technology.
During her teaching career, Webb has experimented with a range of different strategies to enhance healthcare training. She implemented iHuman, a tool to help students build diagnostic and clinical judgment skills, at South University in 2015. She has served as system administrator for Typhon, a clinical activity tracking system, at the Research College of Nursing since 2017. At the same school, Webb implemented the use of the electronic medical record for nurse practitioner simulation activities and created an app for nurse practitioner students in 2018.
Webb is also active in her field of scholarship. She has published four studies in the areas of nursing, health and higher education, and she is a member of both the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Nurses Association. Webb won the Nancy O. DeBasio Faculty Leadership Award in 2018. In June 2023, she was appointed a Public Member of the Board of the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics; her term ends in May 2026.
