Emporia State’s Associated Student Government approved allocations for Recognized Student Organizations earlier this month, resulting in $144,300 in total allocations for fiscal year 2026. The total includes a standard $70,000 operating budget for ASG with the remaining $74,300 going toward RSOs.
RSO allocations are funded through the Student Activity Fee on behalf of ASG. Students pay into this fee as part of tuition and fees.
ASG allocated funds to 52 RSOs for fiscal year 2026. Joel Franz, chair of ASG’s Fiscal Affairs Committee, said in the April 10 senate meeting that many more RSOs requested increases this year than in years past.
Funding was organized into three categories for the organizations: travel, speaker and food and printing and publicity.
Franz said that allocations were determined based on how likely funds were to be used. If an organization was less likely to use their funds in years past, they were less likely to receive an increase. He also indicated that most RSOs prioritized funding for travel than other areas.
According to the allocation bill, $65,900 was allocated for travel. The highest allocation amount went to Chi Omega with $2,300, though they did not request any funding for speakers and food or printing and publicity. For fiscal year 2025, the sorority was awarded $2,050 in allocations with $50 going to printing and publicity.
According to Franz, it was “tougher to give large amounts” of money to organizations with the number of RSOs, primarily in regard to costs for food. Speaker and food allocations make up only $5,350 of the total allocation amount.
Flute Choir, Didde Catholic Campus Center and Christian Challenge received the highest total allocation for fiscal year 2026 at $2,400 each.
Last fiscal year, the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Association and A Cappella Choir received $2,700 in allocations. They each saw a decrease for the upcoming fiscal year with allocations of $2,000, $1,850 and $2,100 respectively.
