An investigation is currently underway after a car crashed into the west side of the Emporia State Student Recreation Center Sunday night.
According to an email sent out by ESU Emergency Manager Jennifer Millbern, law enforcement and rescue personnel responded to a call about the crash around 6 p.m.
The car was seen flipped onto its roof inside the building’s weight room and was later removed by Williams Towing and Recovery.
Sergeant Dominick Vortherms of the Emporia Police Department said speed was a factor in the crash. The driver was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
“At this time, I can’t give any other information. It’s still under investigation,” Vortherms said.
The Student Recreation Center closed at 5 p.m. Sunday due to the Superbowl. It will remain closed until further notice.
This is a developing story.
