Emporia State volleyball played Missouri Western into the fifth set on Halloween night at White Auditorium, falling to the Griffons 3-2.
ESU committed eight errors to help Missouri Western win the first set 25-17, despite their efforts in limiting the Griffons hitting percentage to .200.
In the second set, ESU forced Missouri Western to commit four errors and draw back the Griffons’ 5-2 lead. A couple of service aces allowed for Emporia to begin an 8-1 scoring run for a 10-6 lead. The Hornets continued in the lead for much of the set, until a small push by Missouri Western made the score 22-21.
ESU scored the last three points and took the set 25-21.
The Hornets hit .214 and had 16 kills in the third set which helped them claim victory in the set 25-23. However, Missouri Western took back control of the game in the fourth set, attacking ESU with a hitting percentage of .500 and forcing ESU to make eight errors. The Griffons won the set 25-10.
The Griffons started off the fifth set strong with a 5-2 lead before ESU battled back and tied the score 9-9. Missouri Western went on a 5-1 scoring run and claimed the match.
