After finishing the 2022 season with a 4-25 record, first year head coach Ken Murczek has improved the Hornets record to 12-14 so far this season. The Lady Hornets have also incorporated a number of newcomers who have made tremendous strides for the program.
Junior outside hitter Sandora Sasaki, a transfer from Salt Lake City Community College, leads not only the Emporia State volleyball team but the whole MIAA conference in season kills.
Sasaki has a total of 416 kills on the season so far along with an average of 4.78 kills per set.
She also holds six conference individual game highs which includes total kills, kills in three set matches, total attempts, total attempts in three set matches, kills in four set matches, and total attempts in four set matches. Sasaki has also been named MIAA hitter of the week a total of three times this season.
Another big impact transfer is junior libero Anakaren Chavez from Western Nebraska Community College. Chavez leads the Hornets in digs at 311 and places in the top two in assists at 52 and aces with 23.
In order for the Hornets to return to the MIAA conference tournament, they will need to finish within the top eight of the total 11 teams in the conference. ESU volleyball currently sits in that eighth spot in conference play.
The team has two more regular season games, both of them being away games. The Hornets will play Washburn and Newman. In the last meeting between these two teams, the Hornets took a 0-3 loss against Washburn and a 3-0 win against the Newman Jets.
