Emporia State deadlocked the University of Central Oklahoma 2-2 last Sunday at the ESU Pitch. The Hornets are now 0-2-1 in MIAA play this season.
The University of Central Oklahoma started the scoring in the first half with a goal in the 36th minute from 20 yards out by Kelsie Eason.
The Hornets would not go unanswered as they scored twice in the second half. The Hornets’ first goal was in the 55th minute by sophomore midfielder Tanna Benefiel and assisted by junior midfielder Maria Walden.
The second was scored by freshman forward Olivia Miller from ten yards out and in the 74th minute. This goal was assisted by Walden.
The Bronchos responded with a goal in the second half, shot by Kelsie Eason from 10 yards out and assisted by Mikayla Lowery in the 63rd minute. This second successful goal tied the game 2-2 and forced both sides into overtime.
In the first overtime, no points were scored on either side, forcing a second overtime.
The second overtime followed suit with neither side putting any points on the board.
The teams were forced to call a draw and the game came to an end with a score of 2-2. “I think we played a good game,” said Olivia Miller, freshman forward. “We showed that we’re not a team that gives up.”
ESU will be on the road next week as they head to Bolivar, Missouri to take on Southwest Baptist. They will play at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6 at Plaster Stadium.
