The Hornets fell to University of Central Oklahoma last Saturday in Edmond, Ok. Several dropped plays by the Hornets allowed the Bronchos to pull ahead in the fourth quarter for a narrow 53-52 victory over the Hornets.
The Hornets were the first on the board after a 75-yard drive ended in a 17-yard touchdown pass from Braxton Marstall, junior quarterback to senior wide receiver, Lous Daily.
The Bronchos responded to the Hornet’s early lead with their own two-yard touchdown pass from Chase Stallard to Caleb Moss.
ESU began the second quarter with another successful series of plays. Marstall again found Dailey for another touchdown to give the Hornets a 14-7 lead.
Central Oklahoma responded with several touchdowns, beginning to pull away from the Hornets. The Bronchos returned with a short run into the end zone for Chandler Garrett and a safety against the Hornet offensive line soon after converting on a fourth and eighth down.
This increased the Broncho lead to 29-14 after a narrowly missed field goal by kicker, Austin Dodd.
The Hornets made a comeback in the third quarter, lessening the gap that the Bronchos created in the previous quarter.
Following a touchdown by Marstall, the next score came from a 29-yard field goal by senior kicker Austin Morton. The score was 38-29 going into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter was a balanced catalog of scores beginning with an ESU run that brought ESU back into the lead at the start of the quarter, with a score of 45-29.
The turn-around for the Bronchos began with a 15 yard pass from Stallard for a touchdown and then the completion of a two-point conversion. This was the first of three two-point conversions for the Bronchos in the fourth quarter, pushing their lead over the Hornets and ending the game 53-52.
The Hornets will take on the Northeastern State at 2 p.m. this Saturday in Welch Stadium.
