Due to recent student safety walks on campus, 111 cameras will be installed over the summer, as announced during the Associated Student Government meeting last Thursday.
“These cameras will provide new coverage for all parking areas as well as significant pedestrian walkways,” said Megan McReynolds, ASG president and junior sociology major.
McReynolds also discussed the final recommendations made by the tuition and fees committee on tuition increases for the upcoming academic year.
“The overall tuition and fees increase for all undergraduate students is a 2.26 percent increase, and a 1.65 percent increase for graduate students,” McReynolds said. “This recommendation is the lowest in Emporia State University’s history since the tuition and fees committee began overseeing this process.”
The senate also made modifications to the format of student government bills and resolutions, such as adding line numbers so it’s easier for them to discuss what details they want to bring the senate’s attention to.
“I know this is old stuff, but the amendments do a few things, one: some clarification, and two: they allowed me to put a little bit more teeth on the wheel which is nice,” said Gage Simpson, senator and freshman political science major.
As this was the last meeting for the semester, and McReynolds said a few words of thanks to the senators for the work they did this year in ASG.
“I am just amazed by what we’ve all been able to accomplish and all the leadership that you guys have exhibited over these two semesters,” McReynolds said. “This has been one of the most rewarding and unexpected experiences I’ve ever partaken in and for that I thank each and every one of you.”
Jacob Miller, vice president of ASG and sophomore communication major, also expressed his thanks to the senators.
“I’m so glad all of you were chosen to be senators, I don’t think I would have it any other way, I don’t think Megan(McReynolds) would either,” Miller said. “You all have done such a phenomenal job, this is so cheesy, I’m going to save it all for the banquet, but I didn’t really expect it to become a family like it is.”
