The Lady Hornets fell on the road, in the third quarter to Nebraska Kearney. Although Emporia State had five women scoring double figures, they were still short just five points, finishing the game, 84-79.
This was a very tight game as there were 10 lead changes and five tied scores in just the first quarter. This continued as neither team lead by more than five points the entire quarter.
Nebraska Kearney tied up the game with about 30 seconds left in the game, sinking a three pointer. This brought the score to 39-39 at the conclusion of the second quarter and going into the locker room.
The start of the third quarter was similar to the beginning of the game as the Lopers were only up by five points with about 8:00 left in the game. The Hornets responded again, keeping the score within two points before the Lopers responded with a 10-2 run which caused the first double digit lead of the night and the turning point of the game for the Lopers.
The Lady Hornets opened the fourth quarter with a five point run, however the Lopers responded quickly with a 7-1 run.
This led them to their highest lead of the game, 69-58. Despite efforts to make a comeback, the Hornets ultimately fell short of the win by just five points at the conclusion of the game, 84-79.
The Lady Hornets will be back in action Feb. 10 at White Auditorium. They will take on Missouri Western at 5:30 p.m.
