The Emporia State track and field squad had four provisional qualifiers at the Nebraska Tune-up and at Kansas State’s Steve Miller Open last week. Sarah Hines, freshman, finished with a provisional qualifying time in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.61 seconds, the second fastest time in ESU history, and moved her national rank to 12th.
The men’s provisional qualifiers were Thomas LaRoche, sophomore, in the 800m at Nebraska and the ESU men’s 4×400 team at Nebraska as well. On the women’s side, Kayla Henault, sophomore, was a qualifier in the shot put at K-State, along with Hines.
Three men were crowned champions over the week. The 4×400 relay team won that race at Nebraska. The team included Taysean Goodwin, freshman; Wyatt Sander, freshman; Luke Stenzel, freshman, and Parker Evans, freshman. Tre Dickerson, junior, won the triple jump and Alec Garcia, sophomore, won the shot put at K-State.
Three women had runners-up finishes at K-State. Hines finished second in the 60m run and 60m hurdles. Elizabeth Blevins, sophomore, in the 600y run and Audrey Desrosiers, freshman, finished second in the 3000m run.
Next up for track and field is the MIAA Indoor Championship. The meet starts tomorrow and runs through Sunday at Pittsburg State’s campus.
