Coming from Kansas City, where there are numerous high-end theatre options to choose from (i.e. The Plaza, Cinetopia, Town Center, etc.), the bar for “the magic of the movies” experience has always been set pretty high.
For those who do not know already, I frequent the movie theatres quite often. I enjoy the cinema experience as I plan out a night on the town alone, with my girlfriend or just with some friends. I do not enjoy paying my money for a movie ticket because I am indeed a broke college student, but this is a fact that I have decided to live with for the sake of whichever movie that I have read extensive reviews about on Rotten Tomatoes, and have decided to give a shot.
With all of that being said, I have made an exception for the Flinthills 8 B&B Theatre of little ol’ Emporia, Kansas for two simple reasons. One, it’s seemingly the only theatre that is not over an hour or so away, so there’s that exemplary fact. And two, well, the B&B is not that bad considering the size of Emporia.
I mean, the fact that the B&B announced that it would be renovating for the next month and a half was initially somewhat surprising.
To me, the idea of reclining seats being placed into eight theatres sort of came off as a desperate attempt at appear ring to be a state-of-the-art movie theatre.
But, it has grown on me to be a valiant attempt that I not only respect from a business perspective, but it is a business move that I am excited for as a local movie-goer.
Why should you care about all of this movie theatre talk?
Well, if you like the movie experience, then that should be reason enough.
But if that is not convincing enough, not only will there be reclining seats, but according to the B&B Theatres Flinthills 8 Cinemas Facebook page, ESU Hornets and locals alike will be introduced to a newly renovated concessions, a beer and wine station for those who are 21 years or older, new restrooms and new theatre signs.
Although these are monumental changes and renovations that will happen to the B&B, my favorite part about this entire situation is that ticket prices will not change. Honestly, what more could a college student ask for? My only hope is that B&B Theatre continues its tradition of providing a moderate cinematic experience. In other words, “the magic of the movies.”
As of now, B&B is closed until renovations are complete. So until then, go watch Netflix and wait, in anticipation, for the theatre to reopen.
