Emporia State Track and Field saw another addition to the record list, key times and personal bests as the Hornet men and women competed at the Northwest Tune Up in Maryville, Missouri on Thursday, Feb. 19.
For the third consecutive meet, freshman sprinter Stella Agbokpah set a school record, this time with one she had already broken. At Northwest, she claimed three provisional qualifiers for herself and just over half of ESU’s five.
Agbokpah became the first Hornet to run under 24 seconds in the 200m, winning the event in just 23.88. The time broke her previous mark of 24.06 set on Feb. 6. As of Monday, that time is the fourth-ranked provisional qualifier in the NCAA and tied with two other NCAA Division II athletes.
Agbokpah also recorded provisional qualifiers in the 60m prelims and finals, clocking a preliminary 7.60 before finishing the finals in second with a time of 7.61.
Adding to the Emporia State all-time list was sophomore sprinter Barbara Bentum. Bentum ranked third for the records with a time of 24.82 in the women’s 200m.
The Hornet men also made qualifying strides. The men secured two provisional qualifiers in the 400m from junior sprinters Emmanuel Dukpe and Braden Lipgens. Dukpe finished second with a mark of 47.89 and Lipgens clocked a personal-best 48.18 to place third.
The Hornets will begin the indoor postseason on Feb. 27 with the MIAA Indoor Championships at Pittsburg State.
