Four Emporia State Hornets brought home second-team All-American titles this week following the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, held in Virginia Beach, Virginia March 13 and 14.
Senior jumper Luke Gace placed eighth Friday in the men’s heptathlon where he shot a career best of 11.64m in the shot put. He finished 12th overall on Saturday, racking up 5,041 points over the two-day period.
Running the second fastest time for the women’s 200m in ESU history — behind herself — freshman sprinter Stella Agbokpah missed the cutoff for the finals by just .03 seconds. She placed second in her heat with a time of 23.88.
Agbokpah broke several ESU records for the 60m and 200m, during the indoor season, including those she set herself. She currently holds the university record for the fastest time in the 200m with a time of 23.70 and for the 60m with a time of 7.54, both set during the MIAA Championship in February.
On Saturday, Junior thrower Connor Deters went 17.45m in shot put to place tenth. Sophomore multi-event athlete Isabella Davie claimed the second highest point total in the women’s pentathlon for Emporia State at 3,704. She accrued three personal bests in the competition with a time of 9.29 in the 60m hurdles, a 1.62m clearance in the high jump and a throwing distance of 11.09m. She finished ninth overall for the nation.
Hornet Track and Field is scheduled to begin the outdoor season on Friday, March 27 with the ESU Spring Open, set for 11 a.m at the Zola Witten Track in Welch Stadium.
