Emporia State Information Technology issued a phishing scam alert Tuesday following reports of a suspicious email sent to students and employees.
The email appears to come from a university employee or student claiming to be an “instructor” and “help desk technician” from the “IT Support Center.” The subject line, written in all capital letters, reads “VERY IMPORTANT WARNING: VERIFY YOUR SCHOOL OFFICE365 EMAIL TO AVOID DEACTIVATION”.

The sender prompts recipients to confirm the “info logins” of two university portal Office 365 accounts or risk termination of the log ins within 24 hours. They ask recipients to copy and paste the attached link to confirm their emails to avoid deactivation.
If you responded to the email request, ESU IT asks that you contact the IT Help Desk by email at [email protected] or phone at (620) 341-5555
ESU IT will never send messages asking to confirm or supply passwords. These messages should be reported by clicking the “Phish Alert” button in Outlook or “Report Spam” in Gmail. When in doubt, any email asking for personal information or urgent action should be reported to the IT Help Desk.
