Jeffrey Bucholtz, director of the organization “We End Violence,” will visit Emporia State today and discuss the problem of sexual assault and what ESU can do about it.
Bucholtz will speak at 7 p.m. in Albert Taylor Hall. He will focus on “coming to terms with consent and preventing sexual violence,” according to Community Hornets.
Bucholtz is also an activist and organizer.
We End Violence calls itself a “Social Business,” according to their website.
A social business is “a non-dividend company that is created to address and solve a social problem.” This was said by Muhammad Yunus, economist and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, according to socialbusinessearth.org.
ESU also offers services to people affected by these issues.
Bucholtz’s speech was sponsored and arranged by SOS, according to Blythe Eddy, director of student activities and community service at ESU.
The university website has several pages of advice posted by THRIVE, The Healthy Relationship and Interpersonal Violence Education Program. THRIVE’s page discusses how students can prevent violence, understand their own rights, and properly report when an incident occurs.
The first 500 students to attend the event will receive a t-shirt free of charge, according to Community Hornets.
